EDC casual employees generally work as needed. A casual position receives statutory benefits of Social Security contributions, Medicare contributions, unemployment insurance, worker’s compensation insurance and sick leave. A casual position ends when work is complete.

Successful candidates will have the ability to work at least 3-5 weekday mornings (typically 8am-12pm) per week for 5-6 weeks in the fall of 2022 (Oct-Nov), and 4-6 weeks in the spring of 2023 (April-May). Possible data collection opportunities on other projects, dependent upon funding. 

Job Description

The STEM Workforce Success Portfolio, within the US Division, has an opening for a Pre-K Data Collector, reporting to the Project Director II, in Waltham, MA. The Pre-K Data Collector will work on the federally funded Young Mathematicians Project (with the potential to work on other early STEM projects), whose goal is to address the critical need for innovative resources that transform the mathematics learning environments of preschool children from under-resourced communities by creating a cross-context school-home intervention.

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct direct child assessments of Pre-K students (ages 3-5) in English and/or Spanish in preschool programs and classrooms
  • Communicate with participating teachers about scheduled visits to classrooms
  • Schedule and complete all assigned data collection tasks in a timely manner
  • Complete online assessment data entry

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of training and education) Experience in the early childhood field
  • Ability to travel to research sites located locally/regionally (Brockton, MA; Lawrence, MA and/or Woonsocket, RI)
  • Participate in Human Subjects training and certification
  • Ability to participate in paid data collector training (2-3 half-day sessions) in September 2022 and a re-fresher training in early April 2023
  • Successful completion of child assessment training and certification
  • Data collectors who work with students in schools will be required by state Department of Education to pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Experience: 

  • Experience in early childhood conducting preschool through first grade child assessments preferred.
  • Individuals who are bilingual in Spanish and English are especially encouraged to apply.
